    Hi rebeccaj26201216,

Are you referring to a  PDF file that you've converted to Word (or Excel) format? If so, do you see an Enable Editing button at the top of the converted file? If you do, the file is in Protected View, and you need to disable that to edit. See What is Protected View?

You may also need to triple-click to select the text in Word/Excel.

Please let us know how it goes.

There is nothing about editing or protected view. When I click on the pages it highlights the whole document in blue but will not let me actually do anything to the document. I even tried to copy the document but it copied in the read only also. So it is locked or protected but I can't figure out how to unlock it

Very frustrating as I even upgraded and bought the more expensive Adobe program (PDF package) and still can't get it to do what it is supposed to do. tried the three clicks also.

    Hi Rebecca,

Is this a document that you can share? If so, I would be happy to take a look at it.

How was the PDF created? Did it start as a scanned document, or contain handwriting, for example? Please see Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and form... | Adobe Community. If the PDF was created by a third-party application (not an Adobe application), it may not have all the information necessary to ensure an optimal conversion to Word.

    Best,

    Sara
