Cannot open pdf adobe files

Scan a picture or document and it automatically goes to Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

I can save the scanned piece in a folder.  When I attempt to open the file, I get a message "Not a supported file type or e-mail was corrupted."

Same thing happens when I get a doc or picture via e-mail.  I have to open adobe cloud, select files I want to view and convert them.

This never happened before I got the automatic update to Acrobat Reader DC.

Any tell me how to eliminate this problem?
