changing 72 dpi to 300 dpi

I'm saving a book (with high resolution images) to a PDF file.  I don't want the quality downsized to 72 dpi.  I want it to stay 300 dpi ---- as I've loaded all images at 300.  How do I accomplish this?

    What are you saving FROM? What service or app is converting? How are you judging that the result is 72 dpi - exactly - this is especially important as many apps give wrong information.
