conversion issue error msg: "the path of document being processed is too long .."

I continue to get the following error message when converting some Word docs to pdf. It seems random. I checked and this was an identified issue 6 minths ago but I cannot find a workaround. Help please?

"the path of document being processed is too long. Please save the file to a path shorter than 255 characters and retry"
