Convert pdf with gray lines to excel

Trying to convert a .pdf report to excel.  The lines on the .pdf report alternates between "gray" and "no color".  When converting to excel, the "grayed" lines are downloaded into one field and the "non colored" lines downloaded into separate fields (which is the desired result).  Would appreciate any assistance to address this problem.
