    Hi IBEW45,

OCR is enabled by default when you convert a PDF to Word via the ExportPDF website. Just make sure that you're selecting the correct language for character recognition.

If you're converting to Word from within Reader, it is possible to disable OCR. If you're encountering issues where there are odd characters in the converted Word file, you may be running into font issues. A good troubleshooting technique is to disable OCR. Here are the instructions: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.

Please let us know how it goes.

    Best,

    Sara

    Dear Sara,

Thank you for providing the below information. It is greatly appreciated. I still continue to encounter font issues. I disabled OCR and the only thing that happened is that an image of the text was pasted onto a Word document. This does not allow me to edit the document. I also went to the Export PDF website and converted the PDF to Word format and I still had font issues.

I’m guessing that the conversion of a PDF to Word format with some font and text variations is to be expected.

Again, thank you for your assistance.

    Sincerely,

    IBEW 45

    Hi again IBEW45,

You can certainly run into problems when the PDF isn't written to spec--which can happen with third-party apps. Do you know how the PDF was created? (Choose File > Properties in Reader, and then look to see what's listed to the right of "Application" in the Description box.

I would love to take a closer look at your file. Would you be willing to post it to Acrobat.com and send me a link to it?

    Best,

    Sara
