I just signed up and paid to be able to convert PDFs to Word documents but I'm getting an error message when trying to do so. Could it be because I'm trying minutes after signing up? Do I need to wait 24 hours?

As mentioned above, that you have subscribed to covert the pdf to word document. To confirm the activation we have checked your account and found an active subscription of "Adobe Export PDF" which is an online service that you can access through https://cloud.acrobat.com/
Also, that works with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. If you have not installed the Reader DC then you may install it through- Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions
Your services should be up and running now.
And if it still doesn't work, then you may share the screenshot of the message that appears on the screen.
