File share links not working in Adobe Acrobat Chrome extension

Storing PDFs in Sharepoint online.  I've set it up so that when opened, the PDFss open in the Adobe Acrbat Chrome extension.  These PDFs have links to LOCAL file shares, where the actual docuemtns are stored (doesnt opena  document, but an explorer window to the a firectory of files).  I click the file share link, it pops up a window saying "Do you want to open this link: file://<file path> "  If I click "Open Link" nothing happens.    Is I click in the extension "Open on Desktop",m the PDF opens in the app, and i am now able to click and open the file share from the link.   Not sure if this is a securtiy feature, or if its possible to do/

    As the workflow you refer to is not working, did you use those steps before? If yes, was it working then?

    Would you mind sharing the screen recording of the complete workflow you are trying to better understand?
