How do I create a desktop icon for my acrobat program?

I have recently purchased my acrobat program.  I had an older version of Adobe Reader X.  To access my new program, I have to go into my old desktop icon of Adobe Reader X and then move within that icon to another icon to access my acrobat program.  Is there a desktop shortcut that will eliminate having to go through the old icon of Acrobat Reader X?
