How do I deactive Acrobat 8 when the deactive option is not available?

I need to deactive my Adobe Acrobat 8 so I can reformat and the activate and deactivate option are not clickable. I have already reinstalled done a repair and reinstall using the CD and that option are still not available.  How do I deactivate?
