How do I preview PDFs in a browser?

When attempting to open a pdf file, I receive a notice saying can't open because a previewer program is not installed.

Sounds like you're trying to view the PDF in a web browser, but the browser isn't configured to display PDFs. Please see Acrobat Help | Display PDF in browser | Acrobat, Reader XI
