Question

I get "Conversion Failure" when I try to convert from pdf to excel or word.

I have tried various pdfs from different sources. I have paid for an annual plan to allow online conversion of pdf to excel or word.

Some work, some don't. Do you have more information on the detail of this error?

Hi Ossian,

There are various reasons that you might receive that error message. To understand why you might be receiving them, it would be useful to know the following:

  • Are you converting via Acrobat Reader or the ExportPDF website?
  • What browser are you using? Are you on Mac OS or Windows?
  • How large or complex are the files that don't convert? The ExportPDF service has a 100 MB file-size limit, but files that are smaller might not convert before the process times out if they're overly complex (lots of fonts, many pages).
  • Were the PDFs that don't convert created by a third-party PDF generator? If so, they may not be written to spec, and may not include all the information required to ensure a clean conversion.

Let's start there. If you can tell us more about your system, and the files that you're having trouble converting, we will have a better idea of where things are falling apart.

Best,

Sara

1. I have tried both - when I try from Acrobat Reader it says "An error occurred while trying to access the service"

2. I am using Chrome on Windows

3. 6MB

4. I cannot know the source of every pdf I receive. I did not pay for a pdf converter to convert only pdfs that I created in Adobe Acrobat.

Can you post a pdf for which the conversion fails? You will need to use an outside service for posting the file.
