I have new computer. Trying to download info. from sites I have used before. Get an error from Adobe saying could not open because either not a supported file etc. Old computer worked fine. What do I need to do to get it to work?

I have internet explorer and windows 8.1.  We got them to download to file but then when I try to down load to a PED basic (disc that goes into a embroidery machine) Adobe comes up and says it cannot convert it.  As I stated in the original question.

I never had any problems with our old computer.  Thanks.
