I scanned in a recipe card so that I could have the border design and layout.  I converted this to a word docx and saved it in word.  How do I now type on this layout?  I can't figure it out.

    Hi, mei3356!

There are two ways to accomplish this in Microsoft Word.

    1. Use the image as a background image.  Select Format > Background > Fill Effects... > Picture tab.  To remove it, select No Fill on the Background panel (Format > Background).
    2. Use the image as a watermark (which would make image a bit faded looking).  Select Insert > Watermark... > Picture radio button.  To remove it, select Insert > Watermark... > No watermark radio button.

The directions are based on Microsoft Word 2008 (on a Mac), so the directions may differ for you, depending on the version of Word you're using.

I hope this helps you in your creative culinary endeavor.  Cheers!

    Hi mei3356,

Since you've started with a scanned document with just the card design (no text), the file that you're working on in Word is mostly like image-only. You would have to create a text block over the background image in Word to add text to your recipe cards.
