    Hi confusedasalways,

Did you install Adobe Reader, perhaps? (ExportPDF is an online service, so there's nothing to download and install.) Nevertheless, it sounds as though the filename extension association has changed, so your operating system is equating the .doc or .docx extension with Acrobat or Reader. (

If you're on Mac OS, you can fix that by right-clicking a Word file in the Finder and choosing Get Info.  Select Microsoft Word from the Open With pop-up menu (it appears about half-way down the dialog box), and then click Change All.

If you're on Windows, the steps can vary by version of Windows. Here are the steps to Windows XP: How to change or select which program starts when you double-click a file in Windows XP and here they are for Windows 7: Change the program that opens a type of file - Windows Help

Please let us know how it goes.

    Hi Sara

Thanks for your suggestion but it doesn’t help. When I right click on the email attachment which appears to be a word document, although the “W” in the logo is smaller than usual with a white border, I am given the option to open or save and not open with. The saved document can only successfully be opened as a PDF which I then have to convert back to WORD. If I try to follow the Windows instruction you sent me clicking on the document in my list of documents and selecting WORD as the programme I want it to open with and tick the box to always use this programme then click OK I get the message that this is not possible because the dialog box is open.

    Any other ideas please.
