Question

My PDF files won't open in Reader

YIKES! I accidentally deleted acrobat reader.  I have Windows 7.  I then downloaded Reader XI.  None of my files are compatible.  To totally screw up, I then uninstalled Reader.  Now I can't get to the correct restore point.  My version appears to have been 1.6.65.  Any suggestions greatfully accepted!!!

Hi mjc39134911,

Let's see what we can do to get you back working.

Can you clarify what you mean by "not compatible"? Are you not able to open the files? You should've been able to open them in the current version of Reader. (I'm suspicious about the version of Reader that you mention, though. With Windows 7, you'd need a more current version of Reader.)

That said, I would recommend that you use the Acrobat Cleaner Tool (Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs) to remove all traces of Reader from your system. And then install the latest version from http://get.adobe.com/reader.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best,

Sara

Dear Sara,

Thank you so very much!!!!  Right now, all my previous pdf files don't even show the .pdf extension.  They just have weird little icons next to their names. Will the newest version support my older files?

Incidentally, just to be clear, I literally deleted acrobat.com.
