new serial numbers are four digits longer that original numbers

To register my  Acrobat XI pro the serial number window directs to provide a 24 digit serial number whereas the version I have is about a year old and the serial number is only 20 digits.  When I put in something into the extra block of  4 numbers, the response comes back, not valid set of  numbers.
