not conneted to server because of missing files

We are always getting errors about the connection to the server and missing files. I have checked and the files are there. There use to be a way you could figure out if there is a connection problem. This continues to happen a lot and I guess that is why this product is going away. But this is a part of our workflow and disrupts the entire process. Please help.
