Why is it when I convert that the formating is different and it puts i foreign signs and letters and not what was scanned.  The PDF file is right but when in

word it looks crzay with crazy lettering

    Hi Anjaleigh,

The quality of the PDF that you convert has a big impact on the quality of the conversion. So, depending on what application was used to create the PDF (in  your case, it sounds like scanning software), the results of the conversion can vary. Disabling OCR so that ExportPDF doesn't try to convert the scanned text to image text can produce better results, but then you end up with a Word or Excel document that isn't editable.

Make sure you're getting the cleanest scan possible, but placing the paper straight on the scanner bed, and making sure that there are no smudges or dark spots on the scan.

See this document for more information: Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and formatting information?

    Best,

    Sara
