problems converting pdf files to excel

Every pdf I convert to Excel 2010, converts with many extra little tiny column and line, and never lines up the column and line like an original excel document. Therefore I can't do any 'sorting' or 'totaling' of any of the columns or lines. How do I convert it to the erxcel 2010 so it all lines up and doesn't;t have all the little tiny EXTRA columns?
