Question

problems with fonts

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard Version 9.5.5. I’m tasked with combining Excel, Word and Scanned Documents into a single pdf.  These are provided to me by multiple individuals.  We have started having problems with fonts (Arial), Adobe is putting spaces in between letters in a single word, for example the word “main” appears as “ma in”.  The pdf I create will look okay at first and then seemingly on its own Adobe will change it, so the spacing problem appears.  Are there certain fonts that should be used so this problem won’t happen or is there a fix for what we are currently doing.

    Hi jnelson39,

For starters, please look at the document properties for each PDF and check whether the fonts are embedded. Choose File > Properties, and then click the Fonts tab to see the list of embedded fonts.

With the PDFs coming from different sources, it's hard to know how they're being created (and by what), so it could be that there is some issue with the way fonts are being included (or not) in the PDF.

If you'd like, I would be happy to take a look at a couple of the files you're working with. Let me know, and I'll shoot you a private message with my contact info.

    Best,

    Sara

Hi Sara, please send your email.  I can send you two copies of the combined pdf's, the one that looks okay and the other that changed it's character spacing.
