sharing a file creates a copy of it

Whenever I try to share a file via a link, it creates duplicate of the file. Changes done by others on the file effects new duplicate not the original file. 

Currently, I'm sharing a file, and then deleting original one and working on shared copy so that everyone can see each others changes. But this is very annoying.
