Since I lost all my files and favorite places due to an inadvertant resetting of my pc, I cannot get the Adobe Export pdf app to open a file converted to Word or Excel. It get to the point of trying to open Word or Excel, but it never opens either

Since I lost all of my pc files and favorite places, due to an inadvertent resetting of the pc, I have not been able to get my Adobe Export pdf app to open the Word or Excel files I have converted from pdf.  It gets to the point of trying to open Word or Excel, but neither opens.  How can I fix this ?
