Working for the government, I am not the owner or have access to the license rights; and therefore, I cannot access Adobe directly for assistance - so here I am.  Acrobat DC Portfolios - We switched from printing hard copies and saving into paper folders, to Acrobat DC Portfolios for document storage for our Sea-van Container booking team in the Transportation office.

We are not utilizing for document storage in the final, but shuffling through the various processes to the end.  Working Sea-van container shipments, we have numerous steps of the process in the supply chain movement.  We create a folder on our desktop, save documents as either PDF or in the original email, so we can reply all from the email out of the portfolio. We then upload the documents into a portfolio, digitally sign a PDF tracker sheet that we made to document the steps completed, by what agent, and annotate any special notes.  As documents come in, they are uploaded and another step in the process is worked out of our various systems.  PDFs are created from the end results in these steps and saved in the portfolio. Once the shipment transportation is completed, the portfolio, which is on our network drive, is moved to a completed folder.

Issue:  When transportation agents attempt to open some portfolios, we receive the following error message instead:  There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.

What pains us the most, is that many of them do not provide a restore to a previous version; so that at least, we only lose partial data.

We need to find out and resolve what is causing this issue, otherwise PDF becomes a useless tool in our Office Automation process.

Help,

Scot...

    Hi 65scot,

I am sorry for late response.

Could you please let us know the operating system installed on the machines?

Are the users able to open the pdfs normally when login as an Administrator?

Try login as an administrator and check if you are still getting the same error when opening one of the pdf files.

Also, disable protected view, launch Acrobat DC>navigate to Edit menu>then select Preferences>click Security(Enhanced)> select Off under Protected View and then click OK.

If that doesn't work, try to follow the steps given here: Can't open PDF

Let us know if it worked.

    Thank You,

    Shivam
