Why can't I see text/images on incoming PDFs

@I am using Windows 7, 64-bit OS. Until recently, whenever I received a PDF, either text or image, I could always see the contents in my Adobe Reader X1. I decided to purchase Acrobat X Standard to use for my graphics projects. Now Acrobat always executes when I click on an incoming PDF and get gray boxes instead of document content. I cannot see or read the PDF content. Is there a way to correct this problem?

Thank you.

    Hi Joyce,

    Please give this a try:

    1. Choose Edit > Preferences in Acrobat.
    2. Click the Page Display category.
    3. Make sure that Show Large Images is selected in the Page Content and Information section.
    4. Click OK.

    Did that do the trick?

Yes it did, Sara. Thank you so much. This has been a very frustrating problem for a while, especially when my Adobe Reader X1 has never given me any trouble.  Thank you again.
