Why did combining several pdf's into one pdf stop working?

Why would "Combining pages into one pdf document" just stop working?

It worked two days ago.

Now the combine window doesn't open on OSX 10.9.5

    It does not freeze and other items still work.

    The "Combine" command just does nothing.

    I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. 

    Acrobat Pro VI

    No change. The Combine command still doesn't work.

    I have tried it on several different .pdfs and also from the main menu. 

    What is confusing is that it worked a couple of days earlier.

    Hi Download problems,

    Does Acrobat just freeze when you choose File > Create > Combine Files into a Single PDF? Has anything changed on your system since that feature worked? And you're able to create PDF files using any of the other options (From File, From Web page, and so on)?

    For starters, try repairing your Acrobat installation. See how that goes, and we will take it from there, if we need to.

    I got it to work.
    I noticed a small white vertical line in the middle of the screen

    every time I gave the combine command.  It was about one

    centimeter tall.   I pulled on it with the cursor and it opened

    into a baby window. I clicked on the command icon and the

    entire combine window opened ..... weird.

    I quit Acrobat and reopened it and then gave the combine

    command again and it opened correctly.
    Now it works.

    The combine window apparently had collapsed into a small

    vertical line.   ..... seems very strange.
