A5 size changing when I combine pages to create a PDF

I am creating my first A5 booklet using Adobe express. When creating the booklet I have resized all the pages to A5 on Adobe Express. I then want all the pages on one PDF so I used their combined pages tool. To do this I first download each page as a PNG onto my Mac and then uploaded them back to Adobe to create one PDF. I have just emailed it all through to the printers, but they said the whole thing is much larger than A5. They are happy to change it for me, but I would love to know where I am going wrong, if anyone can help me? TIA
