Question

AVIs from early 2000s don't convert

I have several AVI files I created using Adobe premiere in the early 2000s and they do not play on any system I can find including Adobe Elements Premiere, Photos, Windows Media Player, Movies and TV, Clipchimp, VLC media players, etc.

I tried to upload the files here at Adobe Express and get a message that the media coding is not supported.

On other platform I tend to get the "file type not supported" or they play the audio but the screen is black.  I think the files are compressed with DVSC codec which I found by opening the file in notepad.

This is enormously frustruting because these videos contain a lot of personal memories of my family. They were created in Adobe. Adobe should be able to play the videos. How does Adobe not support a codec that they use to create videos?
