Question

Brand Templates: Users can still add text layers with "Lock from adding layers" is on

I'm creating some templates in our company's Brand for a team to create quick infographics. I've set up several replaceable text layers and an image layer, with all layers positionally locked.

When I created a brand template from the file, I made sure to check the box that said "Users cannot add any new layers onto this template.", as well as most of the other restrictions. However, upon creating a file from the template, I can still add text, and a new layer gets created.

If this isn't a glitch for me only, how would I go about reporting this as a bug? I feel like text layers should count as "layers" and shouldn't be able to be added to the file if the "Users cannot add any new layers onto this template" restriction is set. Thanks all!

Hi

@griffinmedia9

,

Welcome to the community! We're sorry to hear about this. Just to help narrow it down a bit:

  1. Can you confirm if you're editing the template in the web app or the mobile app?
  2. Was the added text created using the “Text” tool or pasted in from outside the app?
  3. Are you working under a Brand-approved user role or an admin one?

If it consistently allows new text layers to be added despite the restriction, it does sound like something we should investigate further. I’d recommend capturing a quick screen recording of the issue and sharing it with us.

Hey! Sorry I'm just now getting to you.

Turns out someone who has edit access to the Brand can in fact add new layers onto template created with the "no new layers" lock. The only ones who can't add new layers on a locked template are the ones with read & use access only.

If that's intended that that is fine by me! This works in my use case. If you think even the editors of a Brand should still not be able to add new layers on a template with that restriction, then that might be an issue.

It wasn't made clear that editors would still be able to add layers to files made with the template even if there's a "no new layers" lock on it. That's what caused confusion.

Thanks, I hope you have a great day!
