Hello Kathy:

I am so sorry you are experiencing this. Hopefully these steps will assist, but let me know if I did not quite understand your issue or intent:

1. If it is a photo/illustration/background/multicolor graphic, after selecting it choose Effects in the Image panel, and choose any of the following:

  • Tint to apply a light color tone overall while retaining some of the original color. After selecting this, click again to open the submenu, and click the color chip to open the colorpicker and set your desired color. Use the slider to set the intensity
  • Colorize to apply a heavy color tone overall while retaining little of the original color. After selecting this, click again to open the submenu, and click the color chip to open the colorpicker and set your desired color. Click to cycle through each color in your theme.
  • Duotone to change the colors of the image to two colors while retaining none of the original color. After selecting this, click again to open the submenu, and click either of the color chips to open the colorpicker and set your two colors.

2. If it is a shape, after selecting it the Shapes panel will open, and click the color chip to open the colorpicker and set your desired color.

Hi, thank you for the response. I am not getting options to change the color of the object within the image. If I click again, I do not get a submenu. The image just rotates through different color schemes. Do I have to do something more to select the object within the image? This is an Adobe image of a wine stain that I am putting on wine tasting placemate. I need to change the wine stain color to color similar to the stain colors of the background layer.  Thoughts on how to achieve what I need to do? I would have thought this would be more intuitive. Thank you.

Ah I see what you are trying to do. My advice would be to select Duotone and set the first color (Shadows) to the color in your other layers, by either using the eyedropper, or the Custom tab to set the desired color. Set the second color (Highlights) to the background color of your document, or pure white (the second of the top row color chips under Swatches). This should get your wine stain to the color you need it to be.
