Edit Controlled Templates

Hi
I currently manage a bunch of controlled templates for use by contributors. I often need to make very small edits to the templates and there doesnt seem to be any way to directly edit a controlled template even if i am the creator of the template.

The current workflow is to create a file from the exisiting template > make the required amends > save the amended document as a remixable template with a place holder name > delete old template file from brand > rename new template from placeholder name.

This isnt an efficient or user friendly way to manage controlled templates, is there a better way?

Hi there, agreed. Allowing author/s who creates a template to unlock layers/objects, modify them, and resave the template is a much needed function. Otherwise I am constantly making edits to a new file and then resaving as a template and then having to delete the previous template. Not a very efficient use of a designers time.

Thank you @Amitej S for replying so quickly. This article doesn't show how it supports this feature. It shows how to create and lock permissions to a shared template, yes. However, once this template is saved, what if I want to make an edit to the template and then save it over the previous version. For example, a month down the line we have decided to change the position of the brand logo (move it from top right to the bottom left) and lock it down and reshare. It doesn't aloow this type of editing over the original template. Any update on this please?

Yeah, that's roughly my workflow too. I honestly don't understand how Adobe is so bad at making PDFs. If it were 1/2 as good as Panda at auto-populating the fields, I wouldn't be as frustrated, but I end up having to manually create every field again in a 5 page template because I can't just swap a logo out. I'm really excited about doing that. Again.

You can't even make a document with all the fields the way you want them and have that import with any consistency to the templates. That would even be fine, just edit the document and make a new template. But nope, can't manage that. Still gotta do it all manually.

I concur that this is an important feature. Allow Brand-controlled template authors to unlock layers/objects, modify them, and resave the template.

I haven't found a better way, either! I agree with the need to edit the template without having to recreate. It would at least be nice to be able to edit the notes or add/remove the unlock with passcode functionality.
