Question

How can I extend background to fill bleed area?

I'm a new user to Express.

I've designed an A5 flyer and want to add bleed and trim, but I'm totally confused. No matter what I try I can't get my PDF download to show a background that fills the bleed area.

  • Do I keep the size as A5 (148x210mm) or expand it to add 3mm all round?
  • I've tried adding Margins and Bleed, which shows on screen but doesn't work on download, even though I've selected them in download settings.
  • I've tried using the Print Preparation Add On, which adds the margins but still doesn't show on PDF.

What am I doing wrong? Help!

Hi @roger_8251

Welcome to the community. Great question! To ensure your background fills the bleed in Adobe Express, keep your project size at A5 and extend your background image or color slightly beyond the trim guides. This covers the extra bleed area.

When downloading, select PDF → Print, then enable Show Bleed and Trim Marks. Check that your background extends into the bleed area.

If you need to, unlock your background layer and stretch it slightly beyond the A5 edge before exporting.

Please let us know if you still need further help. Thanks
