Question

Images upload smaller than background

Whenever I upload an image as a layer (not as another scene), it uploads smaller than the background. If I try to resize the image, it becomes blurry. There use to be an option to make the image fill the background.

This even happens when I try to add images provided by Adobe Stock (using the "Media" panel on Adobe Express). The images never fill the "canvas," for lack of a better term.

All of the images are the same ratio as my canvas background, so it's not that the images are smaller.

How do I upload images so that they are at their correct size?

Hey @tabithab27610608, Welcome to our Adobe Express community!

Can you let us know what happens when you select the image and the left-side panel opens up? Do you get the option to 'Set Background', as shown in the screenshot?

We may need more details to check the blurry image issue. Can you share some examples with the workflow in a screen recording for us to check?

Thanks for the fast response.

Yes, I do get the option the option to "set background." However, I want the image to be a layer on top.

Like in your image above, let's say all of the images on the right (the 3 layers) have a 1080x1920 resolution. If I were to add the cat image (pretend it is a 1080x1920 resolution for this example), the cat image will not fill the entire 1080x1920 canvas.

Here is what I see when I add an image from the Adobe Stock. See how the stock image does not automatically fill the canvas. It should be the same size as my background image.

Hi @tabithab27610608,

Thanks for the detailed explanation and screenshot.

When you add an image as a layer in Adobe Express, it doesn't auto-scale to fill the canvas, even if the image resolution matches the canvas size. This is by design to give you more control over layer positioning.

To make the image fill the canvas while keeping it as a layer:

  1. Select the image layer after adding it.

  2. Use the corner handles to manually resize it until it matches the canvas dimensions.

  3. If it becomes blurry while resizing, try to enable “Snap to Grid” for alignment or use higher-resolution images if available.

Currently, there isn’t an auto-fit feature for layers, but I’ll pass your feedback to the team for consideration.

Let me know if you need help with anything else.
