Replace Background Image and keep the previous pictures adjustments (ie brightness) with new version

How do you replace the image in the new veriosn - without losing your previous photos adjustment? It was super easy before and now seems impossible. I used to keep all my photo adjustments the same - and simply replace the background photo - for quick and easy content thats all on brand. It doesnt seem able to be done anymore??!!
