Replace options in published Templates

Hi,

Is there anyway to allow formatting with a locked template using the replace text feature. For example, if there's a bit block of copy can the user select parts to be bold or italic etc? at the moment it seems theres no flexibility at all with this other than leaving the text block unlocked which defeats the purpose of a template as it lets the user squash the text together and go offbrand etc...
