Unable to download transparent bg video

I want to remove the bg of my video

Adobe Express advertise on it

I there and remove the bg, fantastic!

Then I want to download the new video

First issue, Adobe Express adds a white bg to my video, very nice, this is the opposite of what I wanted

In the hidden settings I can remove the bg, I change the settings

Download again

And now the bg is black! no way to do so

Either update your doc and stop lying to your customers

Or repare your software

In advance, asking me to use premier to do so is not an acceptable answer at all

Hi @hugo_ ,

Thanks for taking the time to share this feedback — I understand that you’re frustrated, especially when the experience doesn’t align with your expectations.

To clarify, while Adobe Express does support removing the background from a video within the editor (for compositing and layering purposes), exporting a video with a transparent background isn’t currently supported. When you download, the video will always render with a background, which is why you’re seeing white or black instead.

I hear your point that the wording can feel misleading, and I will share that feedback with the team — especially around how this capability is communicated in-product.

If your workflow requires a transparent background video export, that’s a great use case to add to our feature request forum here: https://adobeexpress.uservoice.com/forums/951181-adobe-express/suggestions/47161741-transparent-video-backgrounds

Both @thejanebradbury and @AkinGn have provided great workarounds for if you’re still needing this particular workflow for your projects.

I also want to gently remind everyone to keep conversations respectful and aligned with our community guidelines so we can best support each other here.

Thanks again,
Rose

@hugo_ The video format mp4 that Adobe Express uses cannot support transparent backgrounds. However, it is possible to remove a background from a video e.g. of a person walking and then overlay them onto a different background scene.

That’s the background removal in video it is talking about, allowing you to layer different videos upon each other to make an entirely new video scene within Adobe Express, though it will always need a background when exported.

The GIF format does of course allow transparency and that’s currently the only option for transparent video in a browser-based environment. Otherwise it’s using green screen and keying in After Effects or Premiere Pro, as described by @AkinGn

Hello, I think for now the best solution would be using a bright green background for your video in Express (some color like #04F721 ), and downloading your video with that background, then adding your video in your editing tool as a “green screen video”, I did like that for videos that I needed to be transparent, while only using Adobe Express for videos / animations. Of course when I tried with After Effects, the result was much better, since it supports exporting videos with transparent bgs. But for most of the videos that green screen workaround does the job.

You might also want to vote for “transparent video backgrounds” feature request here: https://adobeexpress.uservoice.com/forums/951181-adobe-express/suggestions/47161741-transparent-video-backgrounds

I know if some other expert/designer has any other suggestion, they’ll let you know, I hope this helps.
