Question

User Unable to Comment When Sharing File

Hello,

I have created a file and shared it with a user who has an Adobe Express account. I gave them "can comment" permissions, however, they are unable to comment. If I change the permission to "can edit", they can comment but it allows them to do other things (like edit the file) that I don't want them to have access to. Is this a known bug? Are there steps I can take to make the "can comment" permission work?

Hi @Thomas36369763ibsn

Thanks for bringing this up! The behavior you're describing doesn't sound expected — the "can comment" permission should allow users to leave comments without granting them editing rights.

To help us investigate further, could you please provide the following details?

Are any error messages displayed when the user attempts to comment?

A screenshot showing what the user sees when trying to comment.

The Document ID of the file you shared (you can share the URL for this).

Once we have this information, we'll be better equipped to identify what's going wrong and guide you toward a fix. Looking forward to your response!

Hi @Thomas36369763ibsn,

Thanks for your message!

At the moment, Adobe Express does not support in-app commenting under the “can comment” permission — only the “can edit” level allows users to leave comments directly on the file.

As a workaround using Adobe tools, you can:

  • Export the project as a PDF from Adobe Express and share it via Adobe Acrobat, where users can add comments and annotations without being able to change the design itself.

  • Alternatively, share a review link via Adobe Creative Cloud Web, which offers more controlled commenting features.

We understand how valuable granular permissions are and appreciate your input — it helps guide feature development.
