Why are my downloaded images blurry and what’s the fix?

Downloaded the above image to my iPhone 16 photo library from my image source dreamstime.com. Uploaded it to Adobe Express and cropped out the top right sun. Created the background on Express, popped the sun on it, sized it, and downloaded it to my photo library — it was blurry. After reading your initial reply, I reopened the file in Express, doubled the size, and downloaded to my photo library — much clearer. Does that work for you?

Thank you! This looks like the issue is actually the source image - the sun you started with is a small image, and when it gets scaled up to fill more space, those pixels get stretched, which is what softens it. Express is exporting exactly what's on the canvas, it's not adding blur, it's just that a small source image can only hold so much detail once it's enlarged.

So two ways to keep it sharp:

Start bigger: use the highest-resolution version of the sun you can get from your source, and keep it at or below its natural size on the canvas rather than scaling it up.
Better long-term fix for a simple graphic like this: use a vector (SVG) version. A vector scales to any size with no blur at all, ever. Dreamstime might offer vector/SVG downloads, and Express also has its own sun icons and elements built in (search "sun" in the elements panel) that you can size up freely without losing quality.

For this kind of clean, simple shape, the vector route will save you the issue with pixelation and resizing entirely.

Would you mind sharing a screen recording of your workflow? Is this a shape (or icon or photo)? Are you adding from somewhere else or from within Adobe Express?

Trying to figure out what your setup is so I can take a deeper look, since when I put a sun icon on a canvas, it downloads with no pixelation. I'd like to follow your steps to see how it comes out on my end!

Good news, this is usually an easy fix. In Adobe Express, the resolution of your download is tied to the pixel dimensions of your canvas, not what you see on screen. The editor always shows a crisp preview, but if the canvas is small, the downloaded file comes out small too, so it looks blurry the second you expand it in your photo library.

Two things that will sharpen it up:

Before you download, bump up the size. If your download options show a size or scale choice (like 1x / 2x), pick the larger one. If there's no scale option, resize the design to bigger dimensions first, then download.
Download as PNG rather than JPG. For a flat graphic like your sun, PNG keeps the edges crisp, while JPG adds its own softening on solid colors.

That combo clears it up in most cases. If you're already exporting at a large size and it's still coming out blurry, tell me your canvas dimensions and we can take a closer look.
