Question

Why isn't typographers quotes (and apostrophes) the default as it is in InDesign?

Every time I type a quotation mark or an apostrophe in Adobe Express, it defaults to an architect mark instead (straight instead of ‘curly’). I’ve pasted in curly, which works, when I was trying to also have an apostrophe after the name of a publication (which was in italic) it changed the apostrophe to italic, which I had to undo. When I unitalicized the one character, it switched the apostrophe back to straight.

That was a unique situation, but I use quotation marks and apostrophes in almost everything I create, and more importantly, everything my users are going to create. SO, how can we get the default setting to typographer’s marks instead of architect’s marks, given this is a program for design?

Thank you!

    Hi @jill853,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand your concern, especially since proper typographic quotation marks and apostrophes are important for professional design and publishing workflows.

At the moment, Adobe Express may not automatically convert straight quotes (") and apostrophes (') into curly or typographer's quotes (" " and ' ') in all situations. We can see how having smart quotes enabled by default would help create more polished, publication-ready designs and improve the experience for both creators and their audiences.

We'd encourage you to submit this as a feature request https://adobeexpress.uservoice.com/forums/951181-adobe-express
