Question

Rather bothered about the lack of support for previous purchases

Many years ago, I purchased the entire Adobe Font package containing thousands of fonts. Now that Adobe (and others) are subscription-based my  Type 1 fonts are no longer being supported. I find it troubling that I now have to purchase (through a subscription) ie "rent" the fonts that I paid thousands of dollars to own back in 1999/2000.

I find it troubling that those of us who paid for a product are now being charged again for the product. We should not have to rent the very fonts we purchased. If the technology changes, we should get an update if the purchase is no longer supported.

You have bought Type1 fonts many years ago, and they are now old technology. You say "many years ago", but Type1 fonts are technologies from the last century. It is certain that your investment was huge, but you simply can't blame Adobe for dropping support of Type1 in their software. You are not charged again for the product, the product still works with the software at that time. Only newer software needs newer font technology.

I know, this does not help you, but if you are using Creative Cloud, you have full and free access to the fonts offered currently on https://fonts.adobe.com. If you are using old software (including Creative Cloud software up to 2022), you may still use your old font packs.

Software which we can't use anymore. Essentially, this is like buying a car and then they decide not to produce gasoline anymore. Then tell you - tough. Rent our new electric car.

Does anyone remember when Quark was the go-to software for everyone out there? Guess what happened - that's right, Adobe was great to the market and we all switched. Just because you're a big company doesn't mean that you ignore the marketplace.

It's bait and switch, and I'm pretty sure that there are many businesses that invested in fonts that don't enjoy the idea of paying for the same end product more than once. New fonts? Sure, I get that.

Anyway - I just wanted to post because Adobe should hear from CD's who've been using the product since Photoshop (1).

Why can't you use that software any more? I still have Creative Suite 5 up and running.

Check your licence terms and see if you are allowed to convert the fonts to OpenType.
