Question

Can I create fire vdb file from Subtance designer?

Hello, I found several interesting tutorials about creating fire with Substance Designer, but nothing about exporting it. Is it possible to export a fire into a vdb file?

Thank you in advance for your answer!

Hello,

Designer does not support VDB file export.

A few nodes can deal with volumetric data as 3D textures, and the 3D Volume Render can use them to produce a visualisation of said volume. In any case, the medium for holding that data is bitmaps.

You may combine 3D noises and 3D volume masks to produce volumes, yet their precision will be capped by the resolution of the 3D texture to store the slices.

I hope this makes sense. Feel free to let me know if you have other questions on this topic, or share examples you mentioned of creating fire so I have more context to provide guidance.

Best regards.
