COLLADA import (link 3D scene) support dropped?

According to 12.4.1  release notes :
[Security] Remove the support of file format import Collada (.dae)

Is COLLADA support dropped forever?

(that 'security' section looks kinda strange)

Hi Alex,

Yes, the support is droppped at least for now and we focus a bit more on USD format instead. And it's tagged as 'security' because several issues were reported on this format by security team.
Do you mind telling me why you want to use collada ? Is it for a specifc usage ?

Thanks !

COLLADA is (or was, at least) widely used interchage format.

Every 3D modeling app can export DAE (geometry/UV at least) - that's why I use it as intermediate format for models in game asset pipeline.
USD can probably replace DAE in pipeline, but it's a lot of work just to try it (and I'm pretty sure there will be number  of issues with that in Blender or 3D Max or Modo or somewhere else).

.DAE file is plain text data -- can't even imagine security issues with that (maybe some buffer-overrun bugs, but all that was probably fixed years ago).

Maybe COLLADA support should be enabled by some secret 'enable legacy formats import' option hidden deep inside settings?..
