Create Generators for Substance Painter - Preview?

Hi everyone,

So, I want and need to create some custom mask generators for Substance Painter. After some reasearch I found out this is something you can do with Substance Designer.

However, it is proving difficult to preview how the generator is working in Designer. I have to export and import into Painter to see how is affecting the geometry. My idea was also using some of the premade mesh generators to produce what I need along with some extra nodes. Any suggestions or tips on how to preview these generators in Designer?

Many thanks in advance

Hi

Assuming you have set up your generator graph

In the Explorer panel, right click on the package and choose Link > 3D Mesh.

Then navigate to the mesh you want to test with.

Once linked drag the mesh from explorer onto the 3D view panel so it will now be used to display the output.

Next right click on the mesh in the Explorer panel and choose Bake Model Information

Add the baking maps to the list as appropriate for your generator inputs

Click Start render

The baked maps will appear in the Explorer panel

Drag them onto your generator graph and plug them in instead of the default inputs

Once tested, you can replace with the original inputs and delete the resources before publising as sbsar

Hi Dave,

thanks for your reply. That is exactly what I end up doing. Not very straight forward, but I got there after a couple of tries.
