Question

How to set parent project folder for safe transferring project between home and work PCs?

Hey guys, is it possible to set some some global path in SD similar to the way Houdini has it, for example $HIP/MyProjectSources/ where $HIP would be main root of the project directory containing all the subfolders with various textures I use in SD? I need it because very often I have to copy my substance project from work PC to my home PC and vice versa and while at home I may have MyProjectSources at C:/Projects/MyProjectSources, on my work PC it might be on Z:/FolderA/FolderB/FolderC/MyProjectSources and it would be nightmare to relink all the pathes manually. Is there some way to do that? Thanks!

Hello @Defonten,

Thanks for the question.

We have aliases that are made for this specific purpose. You can create an alias in the Preferences panel, under the Project section.

Here's a video explaining how to add aliases, and here's another documentation page on the subject.

@Cyril Dellenbach Thanks a lot really but to be honest, it's still not very clear to me what would be the workflow. Very simple example:

So let's say I created MyTest.sbs file on my very desktop and linked there SandDesert.png file which is on D:/myResources/Textures

I then entered Preferences and created myResources Alias there mapping it to D:/myResources as a path for this alias.

I then remove SandDesert.sbs file from my desktop and move it to E:/myOtherResources/Textures, open MyTest.sbs and expectedly see that the link is broken.

I go to preferences and in my myResources alias change the path to E:/myOtherResources where I have thise SandDesertfile.png file

But it doesn't work and the link is still broken. What am I doing wrong?
