Reload the Library via Python API

I am trying to reload the asset library after updating it via version control. I had hoped there would be an API function for this, but I couldn't find anything. In fact, the only way I could get it to reload, was to restart the application. Is there anything I am missing, or is reloading the library during runtime just not supported?
