Substance Designer 13.1.2 breaks compatibility with SAT and sbs files from older versions

Hi, we had a couple of artists who upgraded to Designer 13.1.2 thinking it would be a small update but it actually breaks compatibility with the current version of SAT used in our pipeline because sbs files created with 13.1.2 aren't compatible with SAT versions lower than 13.1.2.

In the future is it possible to keep those types of breaking changes to minor or major version updates (such as with semantic versioning --https://semver.org/)? When a patch version update can bring down an entire pipeline it's not ideal for us.

Hello Reuben,

Thank you for your feedback. Indeed, we avoid updating the SBS file format for bugfix/patch versions to make these updates safe, yet that can still happen in rare cases where such an update is required to account for a side effect of a fix.

Regardless of the reason, I agree we should do a better job of letting users know about potentially disruptive updates, as minor as they are.

I have escalated your feedback to the rest of the team. I appreciate your understanding.

Best regards.
