Question

Substance designer and ID

Hello

I note that exporting from Blender to Substance Designer in .fbx keeps material IDs right when opening a mesh.

how do I output two materials to be displayed in their IDs in the substance designer viewport?
or do I need to make a colored map to make the 2-material blender?

what is the material output setting to use with blender 3?

thank you

'Do I need to make a colored map to make the 2-material blender' You would need to make a map to use the material IDs.

'what is the best way to export to blender through the substance designer integration addon? is it by publish?'

The Blender add on uses sbsar materials (i.e published materials).

You may want to consider an alternative workflow between Substance and Blender, which will use the strengths of Blender, Painter and Designer:

1. Model in Blender.

2. Unwrap in Blender and assign materials

3. Export from Blender in FBX format

4. Make any materials that you need designing from scratch and publish to Painter's shelf.

5. Import your fbx to Painter and bake

6. Apply and paint your materials, both those designed in 3 and those in your libraries to each texture set. That way you can build up the materials in layers adding dirt etc as required

7. Export texture sets from Painter

8. Back in Blender use Node Wrangler to connect those exported texture sets to the PBR shader with one click for each set.

9 Light and Render

why are substances opened in substance designer faster, and have better image quality, to update personalization in the viewport than in blender?
