Question

It adds _1 to the filename when exporting, and can I change that to something else?

I'm dumping a bunch of existing video files into Media Encoder to make them smaller. I'm exporting them to a new, emty folder. I understand that the program wants to avoid overriting existing files, but when there are no files with the same names in the desitnation folder, I don't need the automatic "_1" at the end.

  1. Is there a setting in Media Encoder to omit the _1 from the file name?
  2. Is there a way to append something else, my own custom text, at the end of a file name?

Thanks for any help.

It also add _1 when you have to export in different formats.

first file as mp4 has no _1
then I drop also an mxf format to the same output and it ads the _1. No need in my opinion and it's annoying to remove it.

(I need mp4 for online and mxf for broadcast. Also a preset would be great which aplies 2 different output formats 🙂

I can see the logic behind that, even if it's unnesesary. But no, I'm only exporting one version of each of my files.

@CrockAlley,

Workaround: use a batch renamer. It takes only a minute.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, it's not really a huge burden. I can just select all the files and rename them in one go. It was just a curiosity. If there were a button somewhere I could click to save me the step of renaming, that would be great. Otherwise, no big deal.

That would classify as a bug. But I did not encounter such a case with an empty folder. Are you using some special setup? External drive? Are you exporting from Premiere Pro Export Mode and the file name is already set wrong there?

Can you please provide more details so that we can look into the issue?

To avoid automatic renaming in case of conflicts, you need to choose a unique file name in the target location.

@EckiAME

The target location has no files in it. It's a new, empty folder. Why would Media Encoder append a "_1" when there is no other version of that file in the same folder?

Hi,

it is very interesting because it should not happen. If the name in target folder is not present then you will get unique names. Would you like to check if your target folder is different than your source folder? If so, I am happy to take a look into this issue?
Best,

You would;d have to change the names manually and individually.
