Question

Media Encoder 2022 has me losing clients in 2021

I just finished finished editing a complicated project in Premiere Pro. Took three days. The client this is for loves my work. The subject is for a product launch,...TOMORROW MORNING.

I followed the same step as I always do, first error was that Media Encoder wasn't installed. ('Nonsense!' I said, 'I used it this morning.') But it was gone, for sure. Media Encoder 2022 was in my CC account page, waiting to be installed, so I loaded it.

And now,...no export of any kind, to Media Encoder or directly to my computer seems to be possible. Closed the project and PP, restarted a few times,...nothing.

I have a lot on the line here. What's going on?

I found a workaround for people looking for MP4s from AE....

- Bypass AME completely and render an MOV in AE.

- Then convert the MOV > MP4 with https://www.adobe.com/express/feature/video/convert/mov-to-mp4

I'm sure there are other converters, but if you want something quick without downloading another program, this could help. Hope this helps others until Adobe figures out this mess.

you can drop that MOV into AME and convert it to an MP4

what is broken is the XMP connection slash AE server function between AE and AME

This is unacceptable!

I'm running AE 2022 and AME 2022 and

AME is either not even receiving projects from AE or

is stuck endlessly on “Reading XMP…”.

This is the most fundamental feature,

being able to export projects directly via the AE to AME link.

The only workaround is to export an image sequence or lossless file from AE's render queue and
then drop it into AME or even better into Handbrake, because f… AME with its h.264 gamma shift.

Again, unacceptable!

Same here! Upgrading softwares for adobe is like playing russian roulette. Pray that it works or this will kill your job.

I am having the same issue. I even exported the video in AE (that was fine) and dropped the file into AME 22. Still stuck loading. The reason why I initially updated was because AME 2021 wasn't working for me either so I figured "oh let me go ahead and update everything" bad idea. Very bad idea.

Same issue. Made a simple 5-second animation in AE 2021 a couple weeks ago. I'm updated to ME and AE 2022 now. My 5 second animation is stuck on "Reading XMP" in ME.

If I stop it, I'm unable to re-add it to ME until I quit and re-open ME, but it still won't render.

PLEASE HELP THIS IS INSANE.

I have spent almost two days of trial and error trying to get my renders out but so far without result. It seams like reports on this issue started to pop up around 27th, thats 7 days ago. I'm gonna give Adobe a day or two more to solve this otherwise i have no choice but to re-do the entire 37 min film and all linked AE-comps.... Not looking forward to is!

What hardware are fellows on? Im on ryzen9, 32GB and RTX3080. I'm also using twixtor in my project.

I've posted this elsewhere in this thread but I continue to see folks
struggling so I'm sharing here too... With AME closed, send your project
to the render queue. Open up the render queue and make sure your output
file is set. Click the new button, all the way to the right, to send it
to the AME queue. This has solved the issue for me 100% of the time, as
long as AME is 100% closed before clicking the button.

Thx for the tips, i believe i've tried it but i will try it again! My AME is usually always closed before i send stuff to it, but i tend to set render parameters in AME and not in PR so maybe that makes the difference.

Just curious, do you have nested AE-comps in your sequences aswell?

My renders accually do start but freezes 25%-ish in to the renders. Earlier attempts got a crash and an error message but now just freeze...

Hi Scott. Same problems here.

Seems like the Dynamic Link between PremPro and Media Encoder has an issue. If I try and export out of PP using the add to cue it opens ME but then just stops with the blue bar at about 75%.

I did mange to export out of PP using the Export from the PP time line but you cannot stack up muliple exports and it stops you working further on PP while it encodes.

I had to get on with my work so from the Creative Cloud I uninstallled PP, ME and AE and re installed the earlier versions.

All in all this took me an entire afternoon to diagnose and come up with this solution (with help from this forum - so thank you all who contributed).

However I am annoyed with adobe for wasteing my time and effort. I have disabled auto updates on the CC.

Good luck everyone.

I experiencing the same issue. Project was converted to v22 during editing so i don't have version roll-back as an option unfortunaltely. Affected softwares are AE, PR and media encoder. My project contains a lot linked after effects comps so its a challenge. I also experienced a ton of missing media that needs re-linking?

This happens on projects created before the new release.

Has anyone tried to collect the project under project manager, and in that way creating a "native v22 project"?

Having the same issue here, The work around I'm using at the moment is adding the sequence from Prem I need to render via the add source in ME. Not the quickest of things to do but seems to work so far.

This workaround does not work for me. How is your project built up? I have proboubly 14-15 after effects compositions through out my antire project, maybe ME can't render linked comps anymore?

I have close to that as well. I go to file and send to render queue. I
then make sure the output field is set correctly and click the button
all the way to the right that says to send it to the AME queue. The key
is to make sure AME is//NOT open before you do it (else it will fail). I
then give it time to open and once I see the project in the queue, click
the button to begin the render. It has worked every time I've done it
since (about 7 times), as long as AME is full closed before I start the
process.

SAME ISSUE! Stuck on Reading XMP

ATTENTION ADOBE PERSON ON HERE, THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

I made the bad mistake of updating AE, Premiere and Media Encoder to the 2022 versions.  I should have known better since 2021 was a bust.

So now Premiere crashes every single time after about 10 minutes of work.  AE seems to work just fine.

But, when I try to send a composition to Media Encoder, nothing happens. When I open Media Encoder and try to open an AE comp, it freezes and I have to shut it down. ME will import a Premiere Sequence, but not AE.

So, I have no choice but to go back to an older version of Premiere.  But, how the hell do I get an older version of Media Encoder?  Who knows, can it even be done?

Guess I'll just have to export everything directly out of Premiere which only slows the process down immensely. Oh, and not to mention my two biggest projects of the year start this month.

I would gladly pay an 'expert' to do a screen share with me to see if they can figure it out.  Does anyone like this exist?

Hey Tim, older version of Media Encoder can be installed via CC desktop app. In case you didn't already created project in AE of PR 2022, which you desperately need to export, going to penultimate versions of apps is probably the most solid workaround to get your work done. Just click on the elipsis (three dots) icon next to the "open app" button in Creative Cloud app and choose "other versions". Pop-up / modal opens, with selection of available version, choose 15.4.1, which should work. In case you already have some AE / PR 2022 project in progess and you need to export it, you can do it from AE using render queue, or direct export in PR > export as .mov and, in case you need different output file, such as mp4, convert the exported .mov using ME to desired file format.
