Question

Exported PNG sequence has a black edge

I want to export PNG image sequences with a transparent background. I am using "export video/media" because I want to animate objects using ActionScript. Unfortunately, the transparency doesn't work as it should and the edges of objects are always black (please see attachments).

This problem is also described in this post from 4 years ago:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/animate/alpha-channel-video-render-problem-black-stage-coming-through/td-p/9026974

The solution says that it will be fixed in a future update but that's not a solution and it's been four years!!

I would be greatful if this could be fixed. Thanks.

Hi, you'll get better results if you generate the PNG sequence from Animate itself rather than using Media Encoder which as you've noticed isn't very accurate with transparency.

To do so go to File> Export > Export Movie and choose PNG sequence.

Here's the comparison between both methods:

Thanks, but as I said, my animation is generated using ActionScript. It all takes place on the first frame so I have to use "export video/media" in order to specify a time which it needs to run for.

I see, that's a problem; do you necesarily need it to be an image sequence? If not here's a workaround: instead of a png sequence try exporting a MOV file using this preset: Quicktime > Default (Animate). This will give you a frame perfect, lossless video file (rendered in Animate) with an alpha channel which you can then use on any editing software.
